The Knot Magazine-iPad App Review

We move on with the Top iPad magazine app reviews to include newer releases that, in many ways, trump bigger name apps in functionality and ingenuity. The Knot is a wedding magazine that has been very ambitious in its digital services in helping brides and families plan their big day, but also very inclusive in its online community; women make profiles stating their pending wedding dates amongst other important facts, contribute to the message boards and swap ideas. Almost sounds like any other magazine community. right? Not really.

The Knot iPad app has already been hailed as ushering in the largest wedding community onto the iPad platform, coming up with an incredibly community-oriented magazine experience that few to none of the other apps published so far quite emulate.

Review: Wired iPad App

Under the same publisher as Vanity Fair and GQ, Conde Nast has also released Wired magazine as an iPad app, after much anticipation. Despite its early support for an iPad transition, even before the device was finished being made, Wired’s affiliation with third-party Adobe (which has been axed by Apple entirely) has delayed its app release. What it offers now is a technically revised app but one that Wired seems to be pretty content with.

Review: Newsweek Magazine iPad App

At first glance, it seems a bit strange that such a big name in the magazine industry as Newsweek would charge only half of what many other magazines are pricing their own iPad apps (usually on a $4.99 per issue basis). The download of the app itself is free, (and even comes with a free mini mag version featuring Obama), but after a short-lived play with the Newsweek app though, it soon became an unfortunate truth to me that the $2.99 pricing was probably just about acceptable. Perhaps it is to emulate the sleeker and minimalist look they’ve adopted for the website, but on the iPad, it kind of hits a flat note. Here’s a rating list of why.

Review: Net A Porter Magazine iPad App

This is part of the Top Magazine iPad series

The introduction of Net a Porter’s iPad app has contributed to a growing iPad retail phenomenon. It seems that in the transition from website to app,  Net a Porter have made a huge effort to make the app resemble a magazine. They have featured their products in the form of a fashion shoot or fashion feature which gives the products character. In comparison to real magazine  Net a Porter has a brief amount of pages; as much as a weekly magazine.
